Frequently asked questions about scaffolding hoisting fabric

Why does a scaffolding hoarding need to be wind-permeable?

A scaffold stands tall and free, and an opaque tarpaulin acts like a sail on it. The 350-gram perforated tarpaulin allows air to pass through, thereby reducing the force exerted on the scaffold and the façade anchors. That is why an opaque tarpaulin is rarely hung around scaffolds.

What is the difference between this and a mesh banner?

It is the same perforated fabric. Scaffolding fabric refers to its use around scaffolding, with eyelets and cords attached to the tubes. The page on mesh banners explains how the perforations affect the contrast of your image.

Will my image still be legible with all those holes?

Part of the surface is exposed, so the image appears less contrasted than on a solid backdrop. A scaffolding banner is viewed from the street and from a distance, so keep the image simple and the lettering large.

How is the canvas attached to the frame?

The fabric is hemmed and fitted with sturdy eyelets. A cord or tensioner runs through these eyelets to the support tubes. In addition, there are standard construction systems and an aluminium tubular frame with tensioners.

How big can a scaffolding hoarding be?

There is no limit to the width of the fabric, and it is made entirely to measure. When making your enquiry, please provide the dimensions of the frame and let us know where the tubes are positioned, as that is where the rings will be fitted.

Can I order a scaffolding hoarding online?

No. There is no option for scaffolding hoarding in the ordering module, so this has to be arranged via an enquiry. We need the dimensions of the scaffolding and details of how it will be fixed in place in order to provide a quote.

Can the curtain be closed as well?

This is possible with 500-gram frontlit PVC, but only if the location is sheltered. Around a freestanding frame or at height, you should opt for perforated fabric, as this catches less wind.

Do you put up the canvas yourselves?

Creafor supplies and installs using its own team and its own aerial work platform. If your scaffolding contractor would prefer to hang the fabric once the scaffolding is in place, we will simply supply the fabric, fully finished with the rings in the correct positions.

What is the minimum order quantity?

From a piece of canvas. A stretcher usually requires one, cut to fit the surface.

What happens if the fabric tears?

In that case, it usually tears at a sail ring, as that’s where the force is concentrated. That’s why we place the rings closer together as the sail becomes larger, and reinforce the edge. A tear in the middle is rare.

What about the environmental aspect?

The PVC banner scores 1 out of 5. The PVC-free mesh scores 4 out of 5, making it the best outdoor option we have; see the PVC-free mesh banner.

Description Scaffolding fabric

If there is scaffolding against your façade for renovation work, it is usually covered with a scaffolding hoist. The hoist screens off the building site whilst also displaying the name of the contractor, the client or a message for the neighbourhood. Height is the key factor here. A scaffold stands free, and a solid tarpaulin acts like a sail on it, putting strain on the structure and the anchors. That is why you should choose a 350-gram perforated PVC scaffolding hoist, with 40/60 air permeability, hemmed and fitted with sturdy eyelets that are laced onto the scaffolding tubes. You can read about how the perforations affect your visual presentation on the page about the mesh banner. If the tarpaulin covers the façade itself rather than a scaffold, please see xl cloth.

Materials for Scaffolding fabric

Perforated PVC, 350 grams

White, 40/60 breathable. A shelving unit stands tall and free-standing, so the fabric must allow the wind to pass through. An impermeable fabric acts like a sail in this situation and puts strain on the structure.

Or a 500-gram frontlit

For a sheltered spot where the wind isn’t a factor. The image appears fuller because there are no holes in it.

Eco-friendly alternatives available on request

The PVC-free mesh has an Ecoscore rating of 4 out of 5, compared with 1 for the PVC version. Please enquire about this if it is specified in your tender documents.
