Frequently asked questions about Backlight fabric
What is the difference between this and a black-backed fabric?
They are opposites. A backlit fabric allows light to pass through and is designed to be used in a frame or cabinet with lighting behind it. A blackback fabric blocks the light with its black backing and is illuminated from the front. If there is no lighting behind your frame, you do not need this fabric.
Will this fabric fit in my existing lightbox?
That depends on how your display case is constructed. If the display case uses a profiled rail with a slot, you stretch the fabric into it using the silicone cord. If you’re slipping a poster between two frames today, it’s a poster system and you’d be better off ordering a lightbox poster. Send us a photo of the profile and we’ll tell you which of the two it is.
What is the maximum width of the fabric that can be printed?
The roll width is 320 cm, and we print to size within that width. For a wall that is wider than this, the image is divided across several canvases and frames. Please provide the dimensions of the opening, and we will suggest how to divide it.
Can I keep parts of the image dark?
Yes. The fabric can be printed with a white design, allowing you to decide which parts let light through and which do not. For example, you can choose to have only a logo or some text illuminated, whilst the rest of the surface remains opaque.
What is a silicone tendon, and do I need to fit it myself?
The edging is a 14 mm rubber strip that is sewn all the way round the fabric and fits into the groove in the frame. We sew it on as standard. You simply push the fabric into the groove by hand, without any tools, and remove it again when you’re ready for your next campaign.
Do you supply the frame as well?
Yes. The fabric can be supplied with a backlit fabric frame, and our own team will install it at your premises as agreed. If you would like a full plexiglass cabinet with LED lighting, this would require a bespoke lightbox.
Is the fabric PVC-free?
Yes, it is made of polyester, PVC-free, with an Ecoscore of 2 out of 5. We will include the material data sheet with any tender documents or specifications.
What is the minimum order quantity, and how much does it cost?
Starting with a fabric panel. What’s listed in our ordering module is the fabric frame for a single-sided lightbox, available in three versions – i.e. the frame and fabric panel together. If you only want a new fabric panel for a cabinet that’s already in place, please provide the dimensions of that cabinet and we’ll quote you separately.
How much does a backlit fabric cost?
That depends on whether you need the fabric on its own or with the cabinet included. The ordering module on this page calculates the cost of the fabric frame for a single-sided lightbox, including the fabric. We will provide a separate quote for a fabric panel for an existing cabinet based on your measurements.
How do I know if it will fit in my lightbox?
Measure the groove in the profile. If your tray uses a silicone cord, our 14 mm cord will fit. Otherwise, please send us a photo of the profile.
How evenly does it light up?
That depends just as much on the lighting as it does on the canvas. LED panels behind the artwork produce a more even result than individual tubes, where you can sometimes see the lines through the canvas.
Can I use the screen without the lighting?
That’s possible, but then you’d be missing out on what it was designed for. Without a light behind it, a standard 215-gram fabric is sturdier and cheaper.
Can I replace the canvas later?
Yes. The frame stays in place; you pull the old canvas out and stretch the new one onto it. That’s the advantage of a stretcher frame over a fixed panel.

Would you like a picture that lights up from within, in a shop, a reception area or behind the bar in a catering establishment? In that case, the lighting is positioned behind the picture rather than in front of it, which requires a canvas that transmits the light evenly. For this purpose, Creafor prints onto a 175-gram polyester fabric, finished with a 14-mm silicone edging and stretched to size in the frame. With an additional white print layer, you can decide for yourself which parts do and do not light up – for example, to make a logo glow against an otherwise dark background.
