Frequently asked questions about photo panels
What is a photo panel?
A photo panel is your photo printed onto a rigid board, ready to hang. It does not come with a frame or glass, but is a single flat panel that is mounted on the wall using a concealed fixing system.
Which material should I choose for a photo panel?
For indoor use, white Forex in thicknesses of 3, 5, 10 or 18 mm is the lightest and most cost-effective choice, available with a matt, satin or gloss laminate finish. If the panel is to be displayed outdoors or needs to last for years, opt for white Dibond in thicknesses of 2, 3 or 4 mm. If you’re looking for gloss and depth, plexiglass is the way to go. For temporary indoor use, 300-gram cardboard is also available.
What is the difference between Plexi XT and cast plexiglass?
Transparent Plexi XT, available in 3, 5 or 10 mm thicknesses, produces a high-gloss finish and is the most common choice. We order cast Plexi, also available in 3, 5 or 10 mm thicknesses and in transparent, white or coloured versions, for panels that need to last for a very long time.
How do you hang a photo panel?
It comes as standard with a concealed wall mounting, so nothing is visible from the front. There is also a system using spacers, where the panel is mounted at a distance from the wall and the mounting brackets remain visible.
Can I put the panel up myself?
Yes, using spacers is a job for an experienced DIYer. Mark the four drill holes and the outline on a piece of cardboard, tape it flush against the wall, drill using the correct drill bit for your surface, fix the spacers in place, place the panel over them and tighten the screws. For concealed wall mounting, follow the instructions provided. If you’d rather not do it yourself, our own team will come and hang it for you.
Can a photo panel be hung outdoors?
Dibond is suitable, as it is designed for long-term outdoor use. Forex and cardboard are intended for indoor use. Plexiglass can be used outdoors, but please discuss the thickness and mounting options with us.
How big can a photo panel be?
Dibond is available in single sheets up to 4050 mm by 2050, whilst Forex and Plexiglas are available in single sheets up to 3050 mm by 2050. This means that a large façade panel will not have a seam running down the middle.
What is the difference between this and a canvas?
A photo panel is a rigid board with a smooth, often glossy image and sharp details. A canvas print is fabric stretched over a wooden frame, with a matt woven texture. Choose canvas for a cosy feel, or a panel for sharpness and a sleek look.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Per panel. For a series of the same size – for example, a gallery of portraits – we include the total number in the calculation.
What is the largest size?
Up to 2050 at 4050 mm in Dibond, in one piece. That makes it the largest size in our entire range of sheets.
What about the environmental aspect?
The cardboard version is PVC-free and scores 4 out of 5. Dibond, Forex and plexiglass score lower, but will last for years – see the materials page.
Description Photo panels
If you have an empty wall in your showroom, or if you want to showcase your work on the façade, a large photo panel is the quickest way to do so. Anyone coming in will see your projects in full size, and anyone driving past will see your work rather than just a nameplate. Where the panel is hung determines the choice. Indoors, in a shop or an office corridor, a lightweight panel that can be mounted on the wall without a heavy mounting system will suffice. If the image is to be displayed outdoors or needs to last for years, opt for aluminium composite, which remains flat even at dimensions of 2050 by 4050 mm. If you want gloss and depth in the photograph, plexiglass creates that effect. The fixings remain invisible from the front. Our own team will come and hang the panel, using a cherry picker if it’s high up.

Materials for Photo panels
Dibond 2, 3 or 4 mm
Aluminium composite, available in lengths of up to 2050 mm by 4050 mm, and the only option suitable for outdoor use. It remains flat, even in large formats, whereas a thin sheet would start to warp.
Plexi XT or cast plexiglass, 3 to 10 mm
XT clear for a high-gloss finish, cast plexiglass for very long-term use, available in clear, white or coloured. Sides polished to a crystal-clear finish.
Forex 3 to 18 mm, for indoor use
White, with a matt, satin or gloss laminate finish. The lighter and more affordable option for indoor use.
300-gram cardboard
Up to 75 by 105 cm, for temporary indoor use. PVC-free, and with an Ecoscore of 4 out of 5, this is the most energy-efficient version.
