A tension fabric panel is a piece of fabric with a silicone strip running around the edge – the ‘tension cord’. This slot into the groove of an aluminium profile, automatically pulling the fabric taut. That is why an exhibition wall, a lightbox and a wall-sized installation are, in practice, the same product.
The advantage lies in the transport and in the changeover. Textiles do not crease; they are packed folded in a box rather than on a roll, and the fabric can be removed whilst the frame remains in place. So anyone who changes their artwork each season simply orders the cloth.
The frame determines everything else. If it is to be mounted against a wall, a single-sided profile is sufficient; if it is to stand freestanding in the room, it is double-sided and displays an image on both sides, as with a banner with frame. If there is a light source behind it, you will need a translucent fabric: backlight Let the LED shine through and spread the light. If, on the other hand, nothing must be visible through it – for example, because there is a window behind it – then blackback the choice.
