Frequently asked questions about Doming stickers

What exactly is a doming sticker?

A standard printed sticker with a transparent resin coating applied over the top. This coating curves outwards to the edge, retains its gloss and protects the print beneath. You can see and feel the difference compared to a flat sticker straight away.

What is the minimum order quantity for domed stickers?

Minimum order of 250 items. For orders below this quantity, the cost of preparing the mould is too high. If you only require a few items, please let us know and we will look into alternative finishes that achieve a similar effect.

How long does delivery take?

Please allow around 15 working days. The doming process is carried out by a regular partner who pours the resin layer and allows it to cure, and this stage cannot be rushed. Please bear this in mind if the stickers are required for a trade fair or a product launch.

Can a doming sticker be used outdoors?

Yes, doming is used both indoors and outdoors. On polymer vinyl, it lasts up to five years outdoors. The reflective metallic finish is intended for indoor use only, so for outdoor use, it is best to choose vinyl or aluminium as the substrate.

Can I apply doming stickers myself?

Yes, and it’s quick and easy. Thanks to the thick layer of adhesive, the sticker stays firmly in place, so you can apply it in one go, whereas a thin film is more likely to crease or trap air bubbles.

What is the difference between these and 3D stickers?

With doming, the embossed effect is created by the resin layer applied over the print. With 3D stickers, the effect is created by the structure itself. If you’re mainly looking for that domed, glossy layer over your logo, then doming is the right choice for you.

Is doming PVC-free?

No. The combination of substrate and resin coating that we use for this is not PVC-free. If a PVC-free solution is a requirement for your product, please let us know and we will find an alternative solution.

Can doming also be done on a magnet?

Yes, magnetic film is one of the substrates, available in thicknesses of 0.5, 0.6 or 0.85 mm. The thickest version, at 0.85 mm, is designed for use on vehicles, ensuring that the whole assembly remains securely in place whilst driving.

How much does a doming sticker cost?

Doming is not listed as a standard option in the ordering module, as the moulding is carried out on a per-run basis by a partner. Please specify the size and quantity, and we will work out the cost.

What is the largest size?

Limited, as the resin flows out and must remain within the edges. Hand-sized items are the norm. If you want a raised design on a larger surface, you’ll need to use 3D stickers.

What about the environmental aspect?

Not PVC-free. A doming sticker can last up to five years on a small surface, so the material consumption per year of use is low.

Description Doming stickers

Would you like doming stickers as a finish for a product, a wheel rim or packaging? This involves a printed sticker covered with a transparent resin layer, which creates a domed effect and makes the colours appear deeper. Creafor sources its doming from a regular partner who pours the resin, and this dictates the production process: a minimum order is 250 units and the lead time is approximately 15 working days. So this isn’t the right option for a handful of items needed by tomorrow, but it is ideal for brand labels on devices, dealer logos or accessories. You can choose the backing material: high-tack polymer vinyl, metallic polyester, anodised aluminium or magnetic film. If you’re looking for embossed labels without that resin coating, have a look at 3d stickers.

Materials for Doming stickers

A domed layer of resin over the circuit board

Moulded by a specialist partner. This layer makes the sticker convex and, at the same time, thick, which protects it from scratches and the elements.

Polyvinyl chloride, 5 years outdoors

White or transparent, with high adhesive strength. The standard carrier for the resin.

Metallic, aluminium or magnet

Metallic polyester vinyl, with a mirror-like gloss or a matt silver finish. Anodised aluminium in 0.5, 1 or 1.5 mm. Or magnetic film, with 0.85 mm being suitable for vehicles.

Print

  • Screen printing or digital printing, depending on the print run and the number of colours
  • Extra varnish, opaque white, reflective coating, fluorescent or glow-in-the-dark
  • Rectangle, rounded corners or the shape of your logo

Good to know

  • Indoors and outdoors, up to 5 years
  • The metallic mirror finish is intended for indoor use
  • Not PVC-free
