Frequently asked questions about canvas prints

What is a canvas?

A canvas print is a print on woven fabric that is stretched over a wooden stretcher frame. You receive an unframed panel that you can hang up straight away, just like a painting. We use digital printing, and for art reproductions we also use screen printing.

Can a canvas be hung outside?

No, canvas is an indoor material. The canvas is made of cotton and is PVC-free; it is designed for photographs and art reproductions in a living room, showroom or shop. If you need to display your artwork outdoors, you’d be better off choosing a banner or a sign.

What sizes are available?

Standard sizes range from 300 by 400 mm to 700 by 1000 mm, with intermediate sizes such as 400 by 600 mm and 500 by 700 mm. We also produce custom-made items.

What is the difference between a canvas with and without a stretcher frame?

Without stretcher bars, you will receive only the printed canvas, for example, to stretch yourself or have it framed. When supplied stretched, we deliver it ready for use, with stretcher bars measuring 18 by 45 mm, 25 by 65 mm or 45 by 45 mm.

What is the difference between this and a photo panel?

A canvas is a piece of fabric stretched over a frame, with a matt woven texture. A photo panel is a rigid board with a smooth, often glossy finish. Choose canvas for atmosphere and art; choose a panel for sharp details and a sleek look.

How long does a canvas last?

We don’t put a specific number of years on it. The fabric is hung indoors, out of the wind and rain, so wear and tear is minimal. Direct sunlight is what fades the colours the quickest, so it’s best not to hang the fabric directly opposite a window.

Description Canvas cloths

If there’s still an empty wall in your showroom or waiting room, or if you’d like to display one of your own photographs or paintings large on the wall, there’s no need for a frame. A made-to-measure canvas arrives stretched, ready to hang, and the image extends right over the edge. No need to choose a frame first, and no glass to cause reflections in the light from your spotlights. If you’d still like to place the canvas in your own frame, Creafor can also supply it as a single canvas, without stretcher bars. Printing and stretching are carried out in our own workshop. For a series on the wall, eight standard sizes are available, ranging from 300 by 400 to 700 by 1000 mm, and we also produce bespoke pieces. We print art reproductions using screen printing, colour by colour, which produces a different result in terms of colour reproduction compared to digital printing.
