Frequently asked questions about chalkboards

Can I write on the board with a chalk pen?

No. Our chalkboards are not suitable for chalk pens; they are designed to be written on with ordinary chalk and then wiped clean. If you do wish to use a pen, please choose a magnetic whiteboard with a whiteboard laminate – that is a different product in our range.

Can a chalkboard be hung outside?

That depends on the material. Dibond is approved for long-term outdoor use, and polystyrene is also used outdoors. We keep Forex indoors, for use within the shop itself. So please let us know where the sign is to be displayed, and we’ll choose the material.

How big can a chalkboard be?

The maximum dimensions depend on the material. Dibond is available up to 2050 x 4050 mm, Forex up to 2050 x 3050 mm and polystyrene up to 1000 x 1400 mm. We can accommodate larger panels by working in sections.

Can the sign be given its own shape?

Yes. As well as cutting a rectangle, we can round off the corners or cut the board into a special shape, such as the outline of a bottle or your logo. We will drill holes to the diameter you specify.

What is the difference between this and a magnetic whiteboard?

You write on a chalkboard using chalk, and the board does not need to be magnetic. A magnetic whiteboard can be written on with a dry-erase pen and holds magnets, which is useful for planning. For a catering establishment, the chalkboard is the usual choice, whilst for an office or workshop, the whiteboard is preferred.

How do I put up a sign like that?

We can pre-drill holes or supply mounting materials such as a frame, a plinth, spacers or a hanging system. Please specify in your enquiry what surface the sign will be mounted on, as this will determine the fixing method.

Can I order a set of identical signs?

Yes. For small quantities, we use full-colour digital printing. For large runs, we use screen printing, applying one colour at a time, usually on 2 mm polystyrene, which keeps the price per sign down.

Are you coming to put up the sign as well?

Delivery and installation may or may not be carried out by Creafor – the choice is yours. Our own team carries out installations on a daily basis, so we can put up a set of signs on site, whether in a single shop or across several branches.

How much does a chalkboard cost?

Chalkboards are not listed in the ordering module, as the board, size and mounting method vary from job to job. Please provide the dimensions and quantity, and we will work out the price for you.

What is the minimum order quantity?

From a single sign. For a set of identical signs – for example, at a counter or on a shop shelf – the price per item drops significantly.

What about the environmental aspect?

Polystyrene is PVC-free, whereas Dibond and Forex are not, and all three have an Ecoscore of 1. For a large print run of small signs, polystyrene is the better choice.

Description Chalkboards

Are you looking for chalkboards on which you can write the dish of the day or the special offer of the week yourself? Creafor has been making them for years, in the shape and size to suit your business. We’ll print your logo, a border and the regular sections for you; you simply fill in the rest with chalk and wipe it off again. If the board is to be hung on the terrace or on the façade, we use Dibond, as this material is approved for long-term outdoor use. If it’s for indoor use, next to the bar or above a rack, Forex is sufficient. If you need a series of signs – for example, one per table – we’ll print on polystyrene. Please note that our chalk surface is designed for ordinary chalk and not for chalk pens. If you prefer to use an erasable marker, please see the magnetic whiteboards.
