Yard signs

Yard signs

The sign facing the street that states who the architect is, which contractor is carrying out the work, and under which planning permission.

Light enough to mount on two posts yourself, at the front and back of the building site.

It can be taken to the next construction site and is fully recyclable at the end of its life.

Frequently asked questions about construction site signs

Can a construction site sign be left outside?

Yes. Corrugated polypropylene is moisture-resistant and designed for outdoor use, even in unsheltered areas. If you want the sign to last for several construction sites, opt for a protective varnish and eyelets in the four corners.

What is the difference between this and a site hoarding panel?

A site sign is small and lightweight; you attach it yourself to two posts and it moves with you to the next site. A site panel is a large panel that remains in the same place for months and is either permanently fixed or hung up. Both are often used on a single site.

How many copies do I need to order?

One is enough. For small print runs, we use full-colour digital printing; for large print runs, we use screen printing, applying one colour at a time. That way, you don’t pay for a technique that isn’t suited to your print run size.

How do I position the signs so that they can be seen?

Use two posts and put up a sign at the front and at the back of the building site. Also place a sign at right angles to the road, as that is the sign that passing traffic will actually read.

Will the sign remain legible in the evening?

A glow-in-the-dark version is available. Fluorescent and reflective colours are also available, which are helpful when walking along a dark road or in an unlit area.

Can I get a different size or shape?

Standard sizes range from 35 x 50 cm to 120 x 160 cm. Site hoardings are usually rectangular, but custom shapes are possible, up to a panel size of 2050 x 3050 mm.

What should I do with the sign once the building site is finished?

The material is PVC-free and 100% recyclable, with an Ecoscore of 3, so it can be disposed of with plastic. A sign with a protective varnish and eyelets will usually last for at least one more construction site before it needs replacing.

Do you put up the signs yourselves?

You usually put up a construction site sign yourself; you don’t need a team for that. For larger jobs, however, Creafor does come out to the site with its own installation team and its own aerial platform – and that’s exactly what an online shop can’t do.

How much does a site sign cost?

Construction site signs are available in two ranges in our ordering module: screen-printed signs in twelve designs and full-colour signs in six. Simply choose your size and quantity to see the price straight away. For a custom shape or a non-standard sign, we’ll provide you with a bespoke quote.

What is the largest size?

The largest standard size is 120 by 160 cm. For sizes larger than this, we work from sheets of material, up to 2050 by 3050 mm, but in that case you are no longer using standard sizes and the sign will be priced on a per-item basis.

Why use eyelets rather than simply drilling holes?

This is because a drill hole in a hollow-core slab will eventually tear if the sign is hung on a fence and the wind pulls at it. A eyelets distributes that force over a larger surface area. For a sign left outside over the winter, that’s the difference between it staying in one piece and breaking into pieces.

What about the environmental aspect?

Hollow-core slabs are PVC-free and are categorised as polypropylene, with an Ecoscore of 3 out of 5. For a temporary outdoor sign, that is the best score we can offer; see the materials page.

Description Yard signs

Is a building site due to start soon and do you need a sign displaying the architect’s, contractor’s and planning permission details to be placed by the roadside? Then you’ll need site signs. At Creafor, this usually takes the form of a sign made from corrugated polypropylene, also known as multi-wall sheet: moisture-resistant, strong and very light, so you can attach it yourself to two posts without any heavy installation work. The material is PVC-free and 100% recyclable, with an Ecoscore of 3, which makes a difference on a building site where there is already plenty of waste. Standard sizes range from 35 x 50 cm to 120 x 160 cm, and a single sign is usually sufficient. If you’re looking for a large panel that will remain on site for months and needs to be permanently fixed in place, then you’re better off with yard panels.

Materials for Yard signs

Hollow core slab: 3.5, 4 or 4.5 mm

Corrugated polypropylene, also known as Biprint or Duoflex. PVC-free and recyclable, with an Ecoscore of 3 out of 5, and light enough to be carried onto a building site by a single person.

Eight standard sizes

From 35 by 50 to 120 by 160 cm. These dimensions are fixed, which means that a set of site signs in this size range is cheaper than the same sign made to measure.

For the longer term

The same plate can be used in dibond or forex. That’s the choice you’ll face if the sign remains in place for years rather than just for the duration of the building works.

Print

  • Small print runs: full-colour digital printing; large print runs: colour-by-colour screen printing
  • Printing in fluorescent, reflective or phosphorescent colours
  • Glow-in-the-dark version

Finish

  • Protective varnish in matt, satin or gloss
  • Drilled holes or grommets in the corners to prevent tearing
  • Custom shapes available, up to a sheet size of 2050 x 3050 mm

Applications of Yard signs

Why people order site hoardings

  • a sign facing the street bearing the names of the architect and the builder
  • a new-build development where the planning permission details must be visible to the neighbourhood
  • a builder who wants to display his business card at every building site and then takes it away again afterwards
  • safety instructions and signage on a construction site
  • to indicate a temporary car park at an event or festival
  • a cheap, weather-resistant sign that only needs to last a few weeks
  • an election campaign for which wooden structures prove too expensive
  • a series of signs for a promotion on the shop shelves, made from the same material
