Frequently asked questions about PVC cards
What is the standard size for plastic cards?
The standard shape is 86 x 54 mm with rounded corners, die-cut from the printed film. If you would like a different outline, we can have a new die-cut shape made for it. The film comes in sheets measuring up to 70 x 100 cm, so a different size is also possible.
Can these cards also be used outdoors?
Yes, PVC film is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and is water-resistant. How long a card actually lasts depends on how intensively it is used. The material data sheet does not specify a lifespan, so we do not specify one either.
Can a barcode or a magnetic strip be added to the card?
Yes. As well as the print itself, we can add a barcode, a magnetic strip, a writeable strip or a QR code to the card. The most suitable combination depends on the system you use to read the cards.
Are plastic cards PVC-free?
No. These cards are printed on PVC film, which, according to the product data sheet, is not PVC-free and has an Ecoscore of 1. However, our range does include PVC-free materials. Priplak, for example – the polypropylene we use to make printed plastic ring binders – is PVC-free and recyclable as polypropylene.
What is the difference between these and PVC name badges?
A plastic card is a standard size and is designed to be kept in a wallet or swiped through a reader. A PVC name badge is a badge that a person wears on their clothing, either with a magnet or with a pin and a clip.
How are the cards printed for a large print run?
For smaller runs, we use full-colour digital printing. For large print runs, we use screen printing, applying each colour separately. For each job, we select the technique that offers the best value for your print run.
Will I be able to place a further order later and get the same result?
That is precisely why we retain the die-cut shape and the make-up of your order. We print the reorder on the same film, in the same shape and with the same finish, so that the second batch blends in seamlessly with the first.
Do you post these cards as well?
No, this is a product that we manufacture and supply. Every weekday, finished goods are dispatched from our premises to customers across Europe, as agreed. Our installation team is on hand for larger signage projects.
How much does a set of plastic cards cost?
Plastic cards are not listed in the ordering module, as the price is determined by a combination of the thickness, the finish and any barcode or magnetic strip. Please let us know the quantity and your preferred finish, and we will work out the price for you.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Starting from the price of a single card for a sample. In practice, this involves a print run, and when the quantity reaches hundreds, the price per card falls significantly.
What about the environmental aspect?
PVC film scores 1 out of 5. If it’s a promotional card that can be disposed of after a campaign, then a cardboard card or a PVC-free self-adhesive label is worth considering.

Are you looking for plastic cards for a loyalty card, a membership card or access control in your building? Creafor prints and die-cuts them in Lokeren, in batches that you can reorder later without any changes. A card like this is kept in a wallet, handled with wet hands and swiped through a reader time and time again, so it needs to be more durable than paper. That’s why we use PVC film: it’s water-resistant, won’t tear and can be die-cut to the standard size of 86 x 54 mm with rounded corners. If you’d prefer something that someone wears visibly on their clothing rather than in their wallet, then you’re better off with pvc name badges. And to be honest: PVC film is not PVC-free. If your project does require this, we’ll look at which PVC-free material from our range comes closest.
