Frequently asked questions about xl fabric

When is a cloth an XL cloth?

When the size becomes so large that the mounting becomes the issue rather than the print itself. A piece of fabric hung on a fence with a couple of rings is simply a banner. A piece of fabric covering an entire façade requires mounting points, a carefully calculated layout and, in most cases, a cherry picker.

Will there be a seam?

That depends on the size. We have no restrictions on the width of the fabric, so we assess on a case-by-case basis whether it can be produced in a single piece. If a seam is required, we use a stitched seam rather than a welded one, and we’ll discuss with you where the seam will be least obtrusive in the final design.

How is a canvas like that attached?

With rings, with tunnels through which a tube or cord runs, or within a frame. The final design depends on the façade, the existing anchor points and the wind conditions at that location. We’ll come and assess the site before the fabric is printed.

How much wind does a sail like that catch?

A lot, because it is a thick fabric and the surface area is large. That force is exerted on your façade and on the fixings. If the location is exposed or at a height, a perforated fabric that allows air to pass through is the safer choice, as with scaffolding hoarding.

What is the difference between this and a scaffolding hoarding?

A scaffolding hoarding is hung around a scaffold and is perforated. An XL hoarding is hung against the building itself and is usually a solid hoarding. If there is scaffolding around your façade, please read on for more information on scaffolding hoardings.

Can an XL flag be left hanging outside?

Yes, that’s what it’s designed for. The PVC banner is weather- and UV-resistant and can also be displayed indoors, for example in a hall or at an exhibition. We agree on how long the banner will remain on display on a project-by-project basis, as this depends on the location and the wear and tear it will be subjected to.

Can I order an XL towel online?

No, there is no option for XL banners in the ordering module. Please send us the dimensions, a photo of the façade and the date by which the banner needs to be hung, and we will provide you with a bespoke quote.

Will you be putting up the canvas?

Yes. Creafor carries out installations using its own team and its own aerial work platform, even at great heights. We take our own measurements in advance to ensure that the dimensions and fixing points are correct before printing, so that there are no issues afterwards.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Made from a single piece of fabric. With this format, it is almost always a single piece made to measure for a façade or a surface.

Wouldn’t a sail like that catch too much wind?

That’s the right approach for a large, opaque banner. If it’s hanging freely or high up, consider mesh, which lets the wind through. If it’s mounted against a wall or in a frame, frontlit is a viable option.

What about the environmental aspect?

Ecoscore 1 out of 5 and not PVC-free. For a fabric of this size, that’s a considerable amount of material, so the PVC-free version is worth considering here.

Description XL cloth

If a banner is to cover your entire façade or the top of a building, the print is rarely the issue. The question is how the banner gets there and how it stays in place. An XL banner is made to measure from weather- and UV-resistant 500-gram PVC, and whilst there is no limit to the width, at those dimensions the seams, the rings and the fixing points determine what is possible. We therefore visit the site first to take measurements and assess what the banner can be attached to: rings, tunnels or a frame. If the banner is to be hung around scaffolding rather than against the façade, please see scaffold. If it is a standard size on a façade or a fence, then a frontlit banner.

Materials for XL cloth

500-gram frontlit PVC

Weather- and UV-resistant, fully made to measure. There is no limit to the width, and that is what makes a banner an XL banner.

A stitch seam instead of a welded seam

Where two panels meet. A stitched seam holds up better than a welded seam once the fabric gets large and is exposed to the wind.

Metal rings

Instead of plastic rings. On a large canvas, each ring is subjected to much greater force, and plastic cannot withstand that.
