The eco-score is our own assessment of the material’s environmental footprint, on a scale of 1 to 5. It says nothing about quality, and the material must be recycled under the right conditions. Several materials may be listed on this page. We list the material with the lowest environmental footprint, not an average.

Frequently asked questions about milled letters

What are milled letters?

Milled letters are individual letters that we mill out of a sheet, one by one. They are mounted separately on the façade or an interior wall and give your name a raised effect, rather than a flat sticker.

Which material should I choose for outdoor use?

For outdoor use, we use 3 or 4 mm Dibond, in white or coloured, or 20 mm solid PVC if the lettering needs to look thicker. For indoor use, we offer 12 mm Banova plywood and 3, 5 or 10 mm Forex.

How are milled letters fixed to the wall?

There are two ways to do this. Either with double-sided tape and mounting adhesive, or with spacers, which are not visible from the front. Spacers keep the letter away from the wall and create a shadow next to it.

Will the letters hang straight?

Yes. Creafor always provides a template to ensure that the letters are spaced correctly and aligned. So you don’t have to hang them up one by one by eye.

Do you put the letters in place yourselves?

Yes, Creafor specialises in installing milled lettering on site. If you send us a photo of your façade or wall, we’ll advise you on the most suitable material and fixing method.

How large can milled letters be?

We can mill Dibond to dimensions of up to 2050 by 4050 mm from a single sheet, and plywood to dimensions of up to 1222 by 2500 mm. This is more than sufficient for most façade signs, even for letters half a metre high.

Is there a PVC-free version?

Yes, plywood. It’s made of wood and is therefore PVC-free, with the best EcoScore of the four materials we use for this purpose. Forex, solid PVC and Dibond are not.

Can I combine milled letters with a wall sticker?

Yes, we do that regularly in a showroom: a wall sticker as a base, with some milled letters on top, so that the name or slogan stands out from the wall.

What is the largest size?

A letter is cut from a sheet measuring 2050 by 4050 mm, so a height of two metres is achievable. We construct larger letters from sections, positioning the seam where the shape conceals it.

How thin can a letter stroke be?

Allow for at least 10 mm for the thinnest part of a letter. In the case of an elegant typeface with hairline strokes, we check the file in advance, as such parts are prone to breaking during milling or installation.

Description Milling letters

Whether your name is currently displayed on a flat sticker on the façade, or there is nothing there for the time being, individual embossed letters will instantly give your premises a different look. The letters stand out from the wall and cast a shadow, making your company name more legible from the street than a flat, stuck-on sign. Inside, the same effect works well behind a reception desk, above a counter or at the start of a corridor displaying department names. For a façade, use 3 mm Dibond – thin and rigid enough to withstand wind and weather. Indoors, a lighter material is fine, and plywood gives you wooden letters with genuine relief. We adhere lighter letters; heavier letters and anything mounted outdoors are fitted onto spacers that are hidden from view at the front. Creafor will come to take measurements and carry out the installation using our own aerial work platform.

Materials for Milling letters

3 or 4 mm Dibond, for outdoor use

White or coloured, sheets up to 2050 by 4050 mm. The standard choice for lettering on a façade, as Dibond remains flat and does not rust.

Plexiglass, Forex, wood or solid PVC

Transparent, opal or coloured plexiglass in thicknesses of 3 to 10 mm, also suitable for outdoor use. Forex in thicknesses of 3 to 10 mm for indoor use. Banova and plywood, PVC-free timber. Solid PVC, 20 mm thick, for outdoor use.

Always use a template

The letters come with a fitting template, so that you can position them straight and at the correct distance apart. Without that template, a word is guaranteed to end up crooked.
