Frequently asked questions about mouse mats
Will a mouse mat stay in place on a smooth desk?
That is what the underlay is for. You can choose between a 2 mm black rubber layer and a non-slip layer. The rubber layer is thicker and heavier, whilst the non-slip layer keeps the mat thin and flat.
Can a printed mouse mat be left outside?
That depends on the material, but in practice this is an indoor product. A mouse mat belongs on a desk or a counter, not on a terrace.
Can I change the contents later?
Yes, the version with a slot for inserts. You simply slide a printed sheet into it yourself and replace it whenever your prices or promotions change. The mat itself will then last for years.
What is the difference compared to a plastic underlay?
The backing and the size. A mouse mat is small and has a rubber or non-slip underside to ensure the mouse has a firm grip. A plastic desk mat is larger, covers the entire desk surface and may also have a cork or foam backing. The print design is the same.
Can I have anything other than standard colours printed?
Yes. As well as full-colour digital printing, there are reflective, fluorescent and phosphorescent inks – the latter being ‘glow-in-the-dark’ – and mirror ink. For large print runs, each colour is printed separately using screen printing.
Is there a version without PVC?
Yes, there is a PVC-free version made from PET. This film is 400 µm thick and comes in sizes up to 70 x 100 cm. Please specify that you require the PVC-free version when placing your order, and we will take this into account.
Does the mat have to be rectangular?
No. Straight-edged cuts are the most common, but we can also cut to a custom shape, such as the outline of your product or your logo.
How do I submit my file?
Ready for printing and to the size of the mat. We check the dimensions, bleed, outline and transparency before production begins, and can help prepare your file for printing if you only have a design.
What is the largest size?
70 by 100 cm in the PVC-free version. In practice, a mouse mat tends to be around A4 size, as anything larger becomes a desk pad.
What about the environmental aspect?
The cork version scores 4 out of 5, whilst the PVC film scores 1. If you’re looking for a promotional gift with a good story behind it, then cork is the way to go.

Materials for Mouse pads
Anti-reflective film with a rubber coating
0.3 or 0.4 mm film, with 2 mm of black rubber underneath. That rubber is what keeps the mouse mat in place and allows the mouse to glide smoothly across it.
Or thin, with a non-slip coating
The same film, but without the rubber. The mat then remains thin enough to fit into an envelope, which is important if you’re posting them.
With a slot for inserts
You insert a sheet yourself and change it. For a calendar, a schedule or a promotion that changes every month.
