Frequently asked questions about static stickers

How can a sticker stick without any glue?

A static film adheres to a smooth, non-porous surface such as glass through the film itself. There is no adhesive layer in between. As a result, nothing is left behind on the window when you remove it.

Can a static sticker be displayed outdoors?

Yes, static stickers can be used both indoors and outdoors. You can expect them to last for about a year. If you want your message to remain in place for years, it’s better to choose standard vinyl with an adhesive backing.

What is the best way to apply a static sticker?

First, make sure the glass is clean and dust-free. Applying it whilst wet gives the best result, as you can still move the film around and any air bubbles will disappear once the water has dried. You can also apply it dry, but then it will stick firmly in place straight away.

Can I use it again later?

Static stickers can be repositioned. You can remove them, move them and reapply them. Store them flat and dust-free, as dust on the film reduces adhesion.

Will a static sticker stick to a wall or wood?

Not Penstick – that only sticks to glass and screens. For a wall, wood or exhibition stand, use Microtack or Easy Dot, which you’ll find in the ‘stickers without glue’ section.

What is the difference between these and stickers without adhesive?

It is the same family, just with different names. This page is about the static cling films themselves – penstick and electrostatic film – which are designed to adhere to glass. The page on adhesive-free stickers starts with this question and also shows the variants that adhere to other surfaces.

Can laminate flooring be laid on top of it?

No laminate is applied to electrostatic film. If you would like extra protection, we can apply a protective varnish in a gloss, satin or matt finish.

Should I get you to fit that for me?

Usually not. Static stickers are specifically designed to be applied by the customer, even by someone with no experience. If it involves a large shop window or windows at height, our own team will carry out the work.

How much does a static sticker cost?

Static stickers are available as an option in our ordering module, where you can enter your own dimensions and quantity and see the price straight away.

What is the minimum order quantity?

From a single piece. For a series of shop windows in different shops, we include the total number in the calculation.

What is the largest size?

Limited to the width of the film roll. Please let us know your window dimensions, and we’ll tell you whether it can be cut from a single sheet or whether a seam will be required.

How do I store the sticker between seasons?

Lay it flat with the backing film still on, in a dust-free place. Anti-static protection only works as long as the film is clean, and dust is the enemy.

When should I choose ‘easy dot’ rather than ‘static’?

Statisch never leaves any adhesive residue but only adheres to smooth glass. Easy Dot also sticks to a smooth wall or to wood and stays in place more securely, whilst still being easy to remove.

Description Static stickers

If you’re renting the premises, or if your window campaign changes every month, you’ll want static stickers: stickers that stay on the glass thanks to the film itself, rather than an adhesive layer. Penstick is the simplest form of this. This film adheres solely by static charge, to windows and screens, and is available in white and transparent. As nothing sticks to the glass, you can remove a sticker, reposition it and reapply it, and any member of staff can apply it themselves without any prior instruction. Applying it whilst wet works best, as this prevents bubbles. The order module offers the window version in Yupo Jelly, either straight or custom-shaped. If you need the same image to stick to a wall, wood or an exhibition stand, you’re better off with stickers without glue or at easy dot stickers.

Materials for Static stickers

Penstick, white or clear

No adhesive coating. It adheres solely by static charge, to glass and screens, and therefore never leaves any adhesive residue.

Electrostatic film

Available in glossy or ultra-clear finishes, suitable for indoor and outdoor use, with a lifespan of approximately one year.

Yupo jelly

The repositionable window version from the order module, straight or cut to shape.

Application

  • Apply whilst wet, as this ensures the static film lies flatter and without bubbles
  • Only on smooth glass and on screens, not on walls or wood
  • The white version allows you to stick it on the inside whilst still being legible from the outside
  • Can be reused later, as long as the cling film stays clean

Finish

  • Rectangle, rounded corners or a special shape
  • Printed in full colour, with or without white underprint, and, if required, with a reflective coating, fluorescent or glow-in-the-dark finish
  • No laminate on electrostatic film, but an extra protective varnish in gloss, satin or matt
  • These films are not PVC-free
