Frequently asked questions about door hangers
Can a door hanger be hung outside?
Yes, provided you choose a backing that can withstand it. Synaps, Priplak, polystyrene and PVC film are listed on the product sheet as suitable for outdoor use. Cardboard should be kept indoors, which is usually sufficient for a corridor or a hotel room.
What is the difference between recto and recto verso?
‘Recto’ refers to a card printed on one side, whilst ‘recto verso’ refers to one printed on both sides. Printing on both sides is common when the card is turned over to convey a different message. Both options are available in the ordering module.
Is there a PVC-free version?
Yes. Synaps and Priplak are listed on the product information sheet as PVC-free, and the Ecoscore for the door hanger is 2. Anyone who pays attention to packaging usually chooses one of those two.
Why should I choose polystyrene?
Polystyrene comes in sheets of 1, 1.5, 2 or 3 mm thickness, and the product data sheet states that it has a high degree of rigidity. Such a sheet does not bend when pulled by a latch or a hook. The material is suitable for outdoor use.
Can I order a second batch at a later date?
Yes. As long as you provide the same design and the same file, the new batch will be produced on the same material with the same print. Hotels and offices usually order in batches here and top up their stock later.
What sizes are available?
We print Synaps up to 127 cm wide, Priplak up to 80 x 120 cm, polystyrene up to 1000 x 1400 mm and PVC film up to 70 x 100 cm. A door hanger is considerably smaller than that, so you are free to choose the height and width of your card.
What is the difference between this and a hangtag?
A door hanger is hung over a door handle and is turned over or removed by the user. A hangtag is attached to a product and stays with that product. If you’re looking for the latter, please see the hangtags section.
Will you be putting up the door hangers?
No, you do that yourself on site; we print and deliver the set. Creafor does have its own installation team, but they come on site to install signage and signs.
What is the minimum order quantity?
In bulk. Anyone distributing them in a neighbourhood will order a few hundred, and then the price per hanger drops significantly, as the die-cutting is done in a single pass.
What is the largest size?
Up to 127 cm wide in Synaps, and smaller in the other materials. In practice, a door hanger is usually around A5 size, as it has to fit on a door handle.
What about the environmental aspect?
Synaps and Priplak are PVC-free, with an Ecoscore of 2 out of 5. Cardboard scores even better but is still included. The PVC film is the only material that isn’t; see the materials page.
Description Door hangers
Do you need something to hang on a door handle that stays in place and doesn’t crease straight away? Creafor’s door hangers fit over the handle of a hotel room, an office door or a door on a building site, and they stay there until the guest or employee turns them over or takes them away. You can choose single-sided printing, or double-sided printing if one side says something different from the other – for example, ‘Do Not Disturb’ on one side and ‘Tidy the Room’ on the other. As such a card is exposed to touch, moisture and sometimes the outdoors, you should choose the material based on where it will be hung. Synaps is a polyester film suitable for outdoor use and, according to the product specifications, PVC-free; card is for indoor use; and polystyrene produces a rigid card that does not crease. Materials for Door hangers
Single-sided or double-sided
The two options from the ordering module. Double-sided, for when the sign is hung on a door that people pass on both sides.
Synaps, PVC-free and suitable for outdoor use
A polyester film measuring 150 or 200 µm, up to 127 cm wide. Tear- and water-resistant, making it ideal for use on an external door handle.
Priplak, which is also PVC-free
Polypropylene in 500, 800, 1200 or 1800 µm, up to 80 by 120 cm. It bends without breaking, which is important for a hanger that fits through a letterbox.
Polystyrene, rigid
In 1, 1.5, 2 or 3 mm, up to 1000 by 1400 mm. For a hanger that needs to retain its shape and must not curl.
