Frequently asked questions about glass panels

Can a print on glass be displayed outdoors?

We mainly install printed glass indoors, in showrooms, shops, museums and hotels. Our material data sheet does not contain any information regarding outdoor installations, so we cannot make any promises in this regard. If it absolutely must be installed outdoors, please explain the situation to us or opt for plexiglass, which is approved for outdoor use.

What is the difference between this and printing on plexiglass?

Glass has just that touch more shine than plexiglass, which is why it is chosen where the finish is particularly noticeable. Plexiglass is the lighter sheet and is therefore easier to hang and move. For a panel that is hung high up or that is moved regularly, plexiglass is usually more practical.

Will the circuit board get scratched when I clean the panel?

No. We print on the back of the glass, first using a special primer and then with opaque white ink. This means the print is protected behind the glass and is 100% scratch-resistant, so you can simply wipe the front clean.

What sizes are available?

We have the panels made to measure, and all glass sizes can be printed on directly. Please let us know the dimensions you require and where the panel will be hung. The thickness depends on the size and the method of fixing; we will agree this on a project-by-project basis.

How is a panel like this fitted?

With mounting materials such as a frame, spacers, a hanging system or a plinth. Which one is used depends on the surface and the weight. Glass is heavy, so the fixings and the wall must be able to support that weight.

Do you install the glass panels yourselves?

That’s possible. Creafor has its own installation team with its own aerial work platform and will deliver and install the glass by appointment. This is often the safest option when it comes to glass. If you’d like to install it yourself, we’ll supply the fitting materials.

Is there anything beyond standard full colour?

Yes. As well as full colour, we work with films: reflective, fluorescent, phosphorescent, mirror film, carbon film, sandblasted film and translucent film; the latter two are also available with a gradient print. Coloured or white film on a coloured or white panel is also possible.

Can I work out the price online?

No, glass panels are not included in the ordering module as they are made to measure. The price depends on the size, design and finish. For large orders, we screen-print each colour separately, which works out cheaper once a certain quantity is reached.

How much does a printed glass panel cost?

That depends on the size, the thickness of the glass and the finish. Glass is not listed as a standard option in the ordering module, as each panel is made to measure. Please provide us with the dimensions and the quantity, and we’ll work out the price for you.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Made to order. A wall panel behind a counter is usually a one-off piece, and that’s no problem.

Why is the circuit board behind the glass?

Because the image is then protected. You’re touching the glass, not the ink, so cleaning it won’t damage the print and the shine will remain.

What is the difference between this and a print on plexiglass?

Glass adds a little more shine, which is particularly noticeable in dark areas and photographs. Plexiglass weighs considerably less and is therefore easier to hang. For a large panel high up on the wall, that weight is often the deciding factor.

Could you come and install the panel?

Yes. Our own team works on site every day and comes to take measurements and carry out the installation. We recommend this for glass too, precisely because of the weight.

Description Glass panels

Are you looking for glass printing for a showroom, a shop or a reception area where the finish really counts? Creafor prints directly onto glass, and all glass sizes are suitable for this. It’s the ideal choice for places where visitors stand close to the image and can see every detail: a wall panel behind the reception desk, an art reproduction in a museum or a shower screen in a hotel. Glass offers a slightly greater sheen than plexiglass, and you’ll notice this difference most clearly in dark areas and photographs. We print as standard in 8 colours without banding, using a specialised primer followed by opaque white on the reverse. The print is therefore behind the glass and is 100% scratch-resistant. Bear the weight in mind, as glass is heavy and this will influence how the panel is mounted. If you’re looking for something lighter or something to be displayed outdoors, you’re better off with printing on plexiglass.

Materials for Glass panels

Bespoke glass, any size

We have the panels made to measure, in the size you require. All glass sizes are available, so the panel will fit your wall, rather than the other way round.

Print behind the glass

Standard full-colour printing with a custom primer and opaque white on the reverse side, in eight colours without banding. The print is situated behind the glass and is therefore completely scratch-resistant.

With foil behind it

Reflective, fluorescent, glow-in-the-dark, mirror, carbon, sandblasted or translucent, or with a gradient print. This gives a panel an effect that cannot be achieved with ink alone.

Printing

  • Full-colour digital printing in eight colours, without banding
  • Screen-printing, one colour at a time, for large print runs
  • Coloured or white films on white or coloured sheets

Assembly

  • Frame, plinth, spacers or a hanging system
  • Glass is heavy, and that helps determine how the panel is fixed in place
  • Delivery and installation by our own team, or by yourself

Applications of Glass panels

  • a wall panel in a showroom, where visitors can get up close to the sculpture
  • Interior decoration in a shop, featuring an image spanning the full height of a wall

  • a shower screen with a print in a hotel room
  • a feature wall behind the reception desk or the counter in an office
